"A half finished book is, after all, a half finished love affair"

Murder in the Mews: Four Cases of Hercule Poirot (Audio) - Agatha Christie, Nigel Hawthorne

I remember not being particularly fond of these stories, but they are actually quite good.

I´m still a little bit disappointed that the first story hasn´t been narrated by Hugh Fraser, though. It´s not that Nigel Hawthorne did a bad job, but he doesn´t even come close to Hugh Fraser, who is on a whole other planet when it comes to the narration of these books.

Well, that´s an easy one. I think I will only take a leap to the next square (No. 9):

And I will be reading:

Quick Curtain - Alan Melville

The whole book is set at a theatre and the star of a new musical extravaganza is about to get killed in this one at the premiere. I think it fits the prompt.

The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien

Wow! These dwarves are completely useless, aren´t they?

The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien

If I would be in Bilbo´s place, the Hobbit would be a very short novel. I can´t give the answer to a single one of Gollums riddles.

Miss Buncle's Book - D.E. Stevenson

New mown hay, that was good, thought Mr. Abbott. Should `new mown hay´ go into the blurb or should it be left to the reader to discover? What fools the public were! They were exactly like sheep ... thought Mr Abbott sleepily ... following each other´s lead, neglecting one book and buying another just because other people were buying it, although, for the life of you, you couldn´t see what the one lacked and the other possessed.

I´m still in the mood for a lighter read. And since I´m having the second book in the MIss Buncle series on my shelf and I can´t remember much of the first book, I found a reread would be in order. And I really liked this book the first time I read it.

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

I struggled through the first 150 pages of the novel, but then I flew through the pages and I couldn´t put this book down.

And yet, this isn´t a favorite of mine. Simply because this is a soap opera with a lot of drama, horrible people, who are the worst gossips on earth, and ridiculous love entanglements.

I was actually dreading the worst towards the end of the novel and it didn´t end the way I was hoping it would end.

(I really didn´t get the Colonel Brandon/Marianne pairing or, for that matter, the one between Edward and Elinor. I´m a Colonel Brandon/Elinor fangirl all the way, at least in the book)

(show spoiler)

But I can live with the ending because of the incredibly well written last chapter.

And now it´s getting a little bit too ridiculous.

But still, I haven´t the faintest clue how this book is going to end.

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

The mere thought that

Colonel Brandon might end up with Marianne

(show spoiler)

really bothers me. Keeping my fingers crossed for a different outcome.

Anyhow, let´s see how this will end.

Definitely not surprised about him being a douchebag.

Wait a minute ...

Has Edward stolen a strand of Elinor´s hair to make a ring out of it? Without her knowledge?

That´s a bit creepy, to put it mildly.

Cotillion - Georgette Heyer

"Stands to reason if you´re in it I must be too."

Freddy, you adorable human being. You think you aren´t smart enough, good enough, worthy enough, but you are pure perfection. I really loved his character.

And hands down, my favorite thing about this book has been the relationship between Kitty and Freddy, a match made in heaven between two people, who just get each other. One of the cutest couples I have read about in a very long time. These two made me feel all fuzzy and warm inside and that´s coming from one of the most unromantic souls on this planet.

Out of the three Heyer´s I have read so far, this one is my favorite.

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

The sudden termination of Colonel Brandon´s visit at the park, with his steadiness in concealing its cause, filled the mind and raised the wonder of Mrs Jennings for two or three days; she was a great wonderer, as every one must be who takes a very lively interest in all the comings and goings of all their acquaintance. She wondered with little intermission what could be the reason of it; was sure there must be some bad news, and thought over every kind of distress that could have befallen him, with a fixed determination that he should not escape them all.

I´m really not overly fond of some of the characters in this book, especially A) Mrs. Jennings, that nosy parker of a woman and b) Marianne and Willoughby, who essentially are bad mouthing Colonel Brandon behind his back.

I admit it, I´m developing a teeny tiny crush on the male main character in this book. Freddy is such a sweetheart.

Death in the Clouds - Agatha Christie, Hugh Fraser

Not one of my favorite Poirot novels, but still a good one. The biggest issues that I have with this book are the lack of memorable characters, the fact that I found the solution to the mystery to be a bit lackluster and the final reveal to be not very well developed.

However, Poirot is a first rate matchmaker, especially in this novel. And I adore that about him.
