Zeus: King of the Gods (Olympians Book 1) - George O'Connor, George O'Connor Athena: Grey-Eyed Goddess (Olympians Book 2) - George O'Connor, George O'Connor Nimona - Noelle Stevenson, Noelle Stevenson

The last couple of days I have been in a minor reading slump. Neither the novel nor the non-fiction book I´m currently reading are that engrossing, so I picked up a few graphic novels.

I read the Zeus and Athena issues of the Olympians series by George O´Connor, a series that retells the famous stories of the twelve greek gods. Zeus´ story starts with the creation of the earth and the sky, how the Titans came into being and how Zeus has been able to overthrow them. In the second issue the Moirae, the spinners of fate, shed a light on Athenas existence, how she got to name herself Pallas Athena and how she came into the possesion of the Aegis.

I really enjoyed reading these two graphic novels and I have to admit that I have learned some new things about greek mythology that I didn´t know beforehand. I preferred Athenas story, since the stories are much more diverse (for example is Perseus fight against Medusa included in this novel) and she is depicted as a much more interesting character than Zeus (who is a womanizing douche, btw). The fact that Athena is fierce, smart, reasonable and absolutely awesome makes her story a more satisfying read.

My Rating: 4 stars for Zeus, 4,5 stars for Athena.

And then I have read Nimona by Noelle Stephenson and it is just so adorable, cute, quirky and sweet. It´s about Nimona, a shapeshifter girl who becomes the sidekick of the evil mastermind Ballistar Blackheart. As these two team up they have to fight the Instituition and it´s top agent Goldenloin,"former-friend-of-Blackheart-turned-into-his-archenemy".

There are so many funny, sad, dramatic and actionpacked things happening in this novel, I couldn´t put the book down. Absolutely adored it.

My Rating: 5 stars
