Reading a mystery set in Tudor times and another one about Richard III back to back, I got inspired to learn a little bit more about the Englisch monarchy, starting off with the Plantagenets.
Some call the story of the Plantagenets the "real-life Game of Thrones", so I´m curious to see how entertaining this is going to be. It´s already off to a good start with the civil war between Empress Mathilda and King Stephen (which is the historical backdrop of the Brother Cadfael novels).
Oh, and everyone is married to a Mathilda. There are so many Mathilda´s in the genealogy of the Normans, it was difficult to keep them apart.
