

Dumb Witness is actually a pretty good Christie novel, at least when it comes to the mystery part. I really enjoyed how Poirot explored the concept of the convenient lie and Hastings reaction to it. I didn´t like the ending very much, since

However, while reading this book, I realized that I have a new pet peeve in regard to books. I hate it, when humans try to give a voice to animals, telling me as a reader what these animals are thinking or feeling (it doesn´t matter if it´s the author himself or a character who does it). Enter Bob, the dog, who doesn´t add anything to the story besides making Hastings an annoying ass, who translates Bob´s barking and cocking of the head for me. Thanks, but no thanks. It´s annoying and incredibly dumb. I don´t get why Christie decided to give the dog a voice, it simply doesn´t work.
