By these ingenious methods, John collected vast sums from the Englisch Church during the fives years from it estrangements from Rome and enjoyed himself while doing it. Perhaps it most inventive scheme was to take hostage and ransom back his clergy´s wife, concubines, and mistresses. Since plenty of churchmen had babies in their house, it was a price many of them had no choice to pay.
Prince John doesn´t seem to have been the most capable of kings, loosing vast stretches of his land to the French King and getting into temper tantrums whenever someone opposed him.
But he sure has known how to get peoples money, with whatever means necessary. He was a truly terrible person.
