The passages about Fawcett and the historical parts were fabulous.
I really dislike the voice of the author, though, especially when he talks about his own venturing into the wild. I can‘t exactly pinpoint what is bothering me about Grann, I just have the feeling that he is full of himself.
My personal favorite: Grann going into the jungle, „investigating“ and getting sick in the progress, and thus blaming Fawcett for making him go into the jungle in the first place.
I had the same problem with Granns other book, „Killers of the Flower Moon“. As soon as he starts to talk about himself, my appreciation for the book starts to dwindle.
I wish he would stick to the plain facts, then I would like his books much more.
