The Hidden Target - Helen MacInnes

The main plot (the saving-the-damsel-in-distress story line) is just about to begin and it´s about time.

I´m still enjoying this book, though, it is a fast-paced and easy read, but the story feels dated and I´m still struggling with the potrayal of the female characters within the story.

The MC, Robert Renwick, is setting up an international network against terrorism called Interintell and agents are getting recruited. Of course, all of them are men. Women are still only allowed to be secretaries or to seduce the good guys on the incentive of the bad guys, only to subsequently betray the good guy. And this is coming from a female writer, which makes me frown a little bit, tbh.

Oh, and the fact that the female main character, Nina, has been madly in love with 35-year old Robert when she was only 15-years old herself, is positively creeping me out.

Anyhow, I decided to change the task for this square. Instead of the Hanukkah square, I will be reading this for the Epiphany task. In the end, Nina will be travelling across half of the globe and it is a part of the Robert Renwick-trilogy, so it should fit.

Book: Read a book featuring three main characters, about traveling on a journey to a faraway place, a book that’s part of a trilogy, with a star on the cover, with the word “twelve” or “night” in the title, or concerning kings or spices.
